Thomas Corbett

Thomas Corbett was a member of the Order of the Free Gardeners. This was an organisation similar to the masons, and often people were members of both. The order moved twards being a friendly society and largely died out in the 20th century.

In line with similar protestant organisations Thomas was part of the alcohol abstinance movement.

He married Christina McCrae and they had four surviving children Christina McCrae, Thomas, Donald and Mary Hill Corbet.

Here is the Corbett family, Christina is seated and Mary Hill Corbett standing. Donald and Tommy are in the army. The picture is about 1917. On the left is Granny Corbett with Mary Hill Corbett.

In the 1901 Census we have Thomas Corbett age 37  1864, with Christina Corbett age 43 1857 and children Christina Corbett age 10 1891, Donald age 8 1893,     Thomas age 6 1895 and Mary Hill Corbett age 3  1898.

Additional children Moses 1892 died 7 months and William 1896 died 4 months and are buried at the Globe Cemetry.Thomas Corbett purchased lair 172 (Section BF) Globe Cemetry in 1890.

Thomas Corbett died and was buried 3rd June 1918 age 54 in lair 172.
